The journey

The goal of 5000 tier points takes some quite elaborate routing, in fact the first part of this journey will see me through 20 take off and landings many of which are certainly long haul although there is not a single wide body airliner involved in any of the trips.

One of the perks of this is that all of the journeys are in either business or first class in order to maximise the tier points per trip which means I should be well catered for along the way with various airport lounges (starting with the BA lounge at Heathrow from where this post is written), although a top tip from flyertalk seems to be don't eat everything you are offered as you will soon find yourself eating 6 meals a day!

Small portion of bean curry and a glass of water to kick things off then.

For reference the total routing for the trip is:
1. LHR-BRU (London to Brussels)
2. BRU-HEL (Brussels to Helsinki)
3. HEL-LHR (Helsinki to Heathrow)
4. LCY-JFK (London city to New York, with refuel stop at Dublin)
5. JFK-LAX (New York to LA)
6. LAX-HNL (LA to Honalulu)
7. HNL-LAX
8. LAX-MCO (LA to Orlando)
9. MCO-MIA (Orlando to Miami)
10. MIA-STT (Miami to St thomas US Virgin Islands)
11. STT-MIA
12. MIA-LAX
13. LAX-HNL
14. HNL-LAX
15. LAX-JFK
16. JFK-LCY
17. LHR-HEL
18. HEL-BRU
19. BRU-LHR

  5. So are you doing this twice to get GGL?!

  6. That's awesome. Just another 36.5 of these (though fewer, as I'm sure you have a decent chunk of lifetime TPs) and you'll have lifetime GGL. That's the next challenge!

Good luck, I hope it all goes well and you enjoy it.

  7. Great idea, will read with interest. I have a question about TP/mileage runs that I wonder if you could answer? I’ve often wondered what you tell Immigration if they ask the purpose of your journey… and another - what do you tell the airline check-in representative when they ask your final destination or for your itinerary… and what do they say when they see it?! Thanks

  8. How much will this cost you? With all those flights in business / first you must be a very wealthy man!

  9. This is an epic journey to reach GCL. The availability of avios redemptions when there is no availability is the best benefit of all as a GCL.

I shared your story on my blog at http://nextdestinationanywhere.com/355/
