Day 2: Flight 3. Apr 14th 17.15 HEL-LHR

Flight 3: 17.15 BA799 HEL-LHR

Aircraft: Airbus 320
Class: Club Europe
Distance flown: 1150 miles
Tier points: 80

Upon returning to the airport I headed for the BA lounge past passport control, again a pleasant enough lounge with meatloaf and vegetables as well as various other snacks. They charge for spirits here, the first BA/Oneworld lounge that I've been to that does this.

My gate was 37 and found out walking to the gate that there is a Finnair lounge right next to gate 37 - I'm guessing that given Helsinki is Finnair's home it may have been a better offering than the BA lounge for those with oneworld status - I'll give it a go next week!

Another unremarkable flight, good service, obligatory food photo below of a lamb curry.

Not wishing to get too philosophical about life but looking out the window at 30,000+ft and looking down and seeing man made things become smaller than ants, it's all quite civilised inside the metal tube but outside is about -40C and very hostile.

Into Heathrow and onto the Heathrow Express, I'm staying next to city airport tonight and was shocked that even taking the Heathrow Express it took just shy of 2 hours to get here from LHR.

BA001 tomorrow, it might just be the my first ever BA flight to leave on time if it lives up to the hype...

  3. You can see the appeal of the likes of Birmingham airport with a 1:10 hour to Euston as an alternative to heathrow. Then again, I've found the circle line the slow train to death inside london, and personally take a taxi between Paddington and Euston when going between those two...

  4. Sounds like it was the Almost@Home lounge in HEL, which is a 3rd party lounge. Although the Finnair lounge next to gate 37 also have a paying bar menu, you get some basics for free, more free options for OW emerald. Curious about what the new new Finnair Premium lounge without the pay-in/priority pass crowd would be like.
